An abundance has been stated in the press recently regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the cigarette ban in the UK. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But does the online variation of this traditional game offer a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its real life relative?
Bingo has been an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had undergone a recent increase in acceptance with younger people opting to go to the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the smoking ban throughout England and Wales.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public location will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where people like to smoke.
The effects of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Of course they have not deserted this established game?
The answer is on the internet. Players know that they can play bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course betting on online will never replace the collective part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the law has left a good many bingo players with little option.
