• Will the Anti Cigarette Law in Britain Take Bingo Players Online?

An abundance has been talked in the press recently concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the cigarette ban in England. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the businesses alive. However can the web version of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo has been an enduring game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had undergone a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo parlors rather than the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the enacting of the cigarette ban all over Britain.

Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public area will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favored areas where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo halls. Players have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t cast aside this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. People know that they can wager on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cig and still have a chance at huge cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on on the web is unlikely to replace the social portion of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a number of bingo players with little option.
