• Could the Anti Smoking Law in England Take Bingo Players On to the Internet?

Much has been written in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the cigarette ban in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge tax cuts to help keep the industry afloat. However can the net variation of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its land based relative?

Bingo is an established game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had undergone a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the smoking ban all over Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored areas where many people like to smoke.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t given up on this familiar game?

The answer is on the net. Players realize that they can wager on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, have a chance at monstrous jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course playing on the web can never replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the law has left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
