• Could the Smoking Ban in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Players Online?

An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago about the bingo industry singing the blues because of the cigarette ban in the UK. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the net version of this traditional game offer a salvation, or might it not compare to its land based peer?

Bingo has been an enduring game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had seen a recent return in acceptance with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law across Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public location will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where players enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the industry is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Surely they haven’t cast aside this classic game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers know that they can wager on bingo from their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and still have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course betting on online will never replace the social aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
