• Can the Anti Cigarette Law in the UK Drive Bingo Enthusiasts Online?

An abundance has been written in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry struggling as a result of the smoking ban in England. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to help keep the industry alive. But will the net version of this quintessential game present a salvation, or will it never compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo is an classic game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game recently had witnessed a recent return in popularity with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the introduction of the cigarette ban throughout UK.

No more will enthusiasts be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular areas where players enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t deserted this ancient game?

The answer is online. Gamblers know that they can gamble on bingo using their computer while enjoying a drink and smoke and still enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the web will never replace the social portion of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with little option.
