• Could the Cigarette Ban in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

A lot has been talked in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to assist in keeping the businesses alive. But can the net variation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or might it not compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo is an established game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had witnessed a recent return in acceptance with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the anti smoking law across UK.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most common locations where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not deserted this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can enjoy bingo using their computer while enjoying a drink and cigarette and in the end, enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course wagering on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the law has left many bingo players with no alternative.
