An abundance has been talked in the press recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge tax cuts to help keep the businesses afloat. But can the internet variation of this quintessential game provide a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?
Bingo is an ancient game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger members of society opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the enacting of the cigarette ban throughout United Kingdom.
No more will enthusiasts be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored places where folks enjoy smoking.
The results of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Players have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not cast aside this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. Players know that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and cigarette and in the end, enjoy big prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the web is unlikely to replace the collective part of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
