• Bingo in Oklahoma

Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That’s because the Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo sessions for generations. Patrons from many of the neighboring states get in vehicles and travel into Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) became law after a precedent setting ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. From that time, 23 of the 39 Indian bands of Oklahoma have opened bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the wagering rules, and today control ten casinos of their own. Bingo is the game on which these casinos were built on. digital games like slot machine games were not permitted, because they are thought to lead to gambling addiction more than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma rules have changed to permit large Indian gaming gambling halls. You’ll now see Native casinos with one armed bandits, video poker and 21 tables. Craps and roulette are not yet authorized in the Native gambling dens yet, but that is just a waiting game. No one can determine whether having other games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
