• Could the Anti Cigarette Law in England Drive Bingo Players On to the Net?

    [ English ]

A lot has been stated in the press recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to help keep the businesses afloat. But does the online version of this traditional game provide a salvation, or might it not compare to its real life relative?

Bingo is an age old game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game lately had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the cigarette ban across United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not forgotten this ancient game?

The answer is online. Gamblers realize that they can participate in bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and smoke and in the end, have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the web will never replace the collective part of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the rules have left many bingo players with no choice.
