• Bingo and Oklahoma: 2 Peas in a Pod

Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. That’s because the Indian bands of Oklahoma have run Bingo sessions for generations. Guests from each of the neighboring states pile in vehicles and travel to Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo for the weekends.

The 1988 IGRA followed a benchmark decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. From that instance, twenty three of the 39 Native tribes located in Oklahoma have opened gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the gaming laws, and at this time operate 10 gambling halls of their own. Bingo is the game on which the above-mentioned gambling dens were built on. Electronic games like slot machines were not permitted, on the grounds that they are believed to contribute to gambling addiction at a higher rate than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts has changed to allow for large American Indian gaming gambling dens. You’ll now see American Indian casinos with slot machine games, video poker and black jack tables. Craps and roulette are not yet approved in the American Indian gambling halls yet, however that is just a waiting game. Nobody can say what having other gambling hall games in the bingo parlors will do for the draw of bingo.
