• Might the Cigarette Ban in Britain Force Bingo Players On to the Web?

An abundance has been talked in the press not long ago about the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the UK. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax cuts to help keep the industry afloat. However can the online adaptation of this traditional game offer a salvation, or might it never compare to its real life kin?

Bingo is an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls instead of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the enacting of the cigarette ban all over Britain.

No longer will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlours. Players have dropped and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. Players are now realizing that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on online could never replace the collective part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
