• Bingo and Oklahoma: Two Peas in a Pod

Oklahoma has for a long time been interrelated with Bingo. That is because the Native tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo sessions for decades. Patrons from all of the surrounding states pile in automobiles and visit Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo for the weekends.

The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was introduced after a benchmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court the year prior. From that time, twenty three of the 39 Amerindian bands located in Oklahoma have opened gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the wagering laws, and at this time operate ten gambling halls of their very own. Bingo was the game on which these casinos were founded. Electronic games like one armed bandits weren’t allowed, due to the fact that they’re thought to contribute to gambling dependency at a higher rate than bingo.

In recent years, Oklahoma law has changed to allow for enormous Amerindian betting gambling dens. You will now find American Indian gambling halls with one armed bandits, video poker and black jack tables. Craps and roulette are not authorized in the American Indian gambling dens as of yet, but this is just a waiting game. Nobody can determine whether having other games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
