• Will the Cigarette Ban in the United Kingdom Take Bingo Players On to the Internet?

    [ English ]

An abundance has been reported in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the internet variation of this classic game provide a escape, or might it in no way compare to its real life peer?

Bingo is an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent return in acceptance with younger people deciding to visit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the smoking ban around England and Wales.

Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular areas where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Players have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Surely they haven’t deserted this enduring game?

The answer is online. People know that they can wager on bingo using their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on online could never replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the rules have left many bingo players with no choice.
