• Will the Anti Smoking Law in the United Kingdom Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

    [ English ]

Much has been written in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But can the net adaptation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or will it never compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo is an classic game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo halls rather than the discos on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the anti smoking law around Britain.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common places where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they have not abandoned this familiar game?

The answer is online. Gamblers know that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on on the web can never replace the collective portion of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
